The Resident District commissioner Yumbe Mrs. Caroline Angolere right hand appreciates Mr. Okiror Francis from CIDD-UG left during the closure of the 4 days Local Governance and Budget accountability training workshop in Yumbe District by CIDD-UG in partnership with Network for Active Citizen.

The Training of 60 young leaders in Yumbe and Mayuge Districts was designed to close the participant’s knowledge gap on Local Governance, Public policy advocacy and or Budget monitoring and accountability at local government level. The trainings in turn did not only help increase participants knowledge in development planning, but also used active citizen model to build up three major competences among young leaders that includes:

  1. Values: Recognizing one’s own biases accepting differences taking responsibility for Defending the rights of others …
  2. Knowledge: Identifying the policy frameworks, Local and main international treaties establishing the bases of young people participation as a human Rights and identifying Different forms of youth democratic participation through the introduction of Hart’s Ladder of Participation.
  3. Skills: Fostering and enhancing participants’ soft skills in the subject matter.
    Democratic participation, Budget accountability, advocacy skills, dialogue and conflict resolution and dealing with challenging governance context in Uganda.
