Councilors brainstorming on how to improve leadership outcomes during leaders dialogue meeting in Kibuku District
The 2021 scientific General elections in Uganda were conducted with rise in discontentment among the actors. This bread lots of conflicts across the board and yet not matched by requisite civic education that would have promoted skills on peaceful coexistence among political actors, but also encourage community collective action towards shared goals before, during and after the general elections as a means to enable leaders to help communities realize the unmet needs like poor infrastructure, agricultural pests, and limited access to healthcare and education, among others. It was against such background that CIDD-UG planed and organized post election leaders dialogue to help local Government leaders to develop skills for cooperation amongst themselves and community members in meeting these needs.
As we could be aware that absence of reconciliation and the lack of equitable mechanisms for resolving local conflicts are root causes of past instability, and most likely to be the cause of future instability. Dialogue and education campaigns are now at the core of CIDD-UG present peace building strategy to salvage such situations. CIDD-UG uses post 2021 General Election dialogues to rebuild trust and understanding between local government leaders and communities in Bukedi for lasting peace and sustainable community growth and development.
The immediate result of CIDD-UG Dialogue and education has been improved communication between Local Government leaders and rights holders, a relationship that had previously stained in our areas of operation.
