During January-March 2025 reporting period, CIDD-UG conducted citizen-leader interaction sessions aimed at enhancing collaboration and mutual understanding necessary for the successful implementation of the Strengthening Citizens Engagement in Public Accountability (SCEPA) project in the Bukedi sub-region. These interactions were informed by the findings of the recent Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) survey, which revealed a weak relationship between community members and their local leaders an issue that significantly hampers the quality of service delivery in Bukedi sub region.
CIDD-UG recognizes that a fundamental component in strengthening the demand for decentralized governance and improving service delivery is fostering a shared vision for local governance. This includes building awareness of how decentralization can address localized challenges and promote inclusive local economic development.
Through the citizen-leader interactions, over 900 community members and local leaders participated in open dialogues across Bukedi sub-region. These engagements laid a solid foundation for improved social cohesion and established better communication channels between citizens and leaders, marking a significant step toward effective implementation of the SCEPA project at grassroots level. As a result, these meetings have nurtured both horizontal and vertical interactions at the local level bridging gaps that previously existed. This renewed connection is expected to accelerate collective actions aimed at strengthening citizen participation, enhancing public accountability, and ultimately improving the quality of service delivery across Bukedi sub-region.
