Young people undergoing a digital skilling Programme at CIDD-UG digital Hub

ICT can help accelerate progress towards every single one of the 17 SDGs. It creates prerequisites for being part of the global network and links dynamic flow of information, fast communication, and easy access to improved opportunities for young people from rural populations. It also reduces on deepening inequalities, in terms of the cost, its access and utilization. Digital skills therefore form an essential part of key competencies which is an indicator for the development of society, it is widely accepted that the level of competence of the young population and the readiness to accept new challenges in the context of social transformations is one of the key factors that can promote rural youth development and has a critical effect on achieving the SDGs.

It is against such background that CIDD-UG embarked on a deliberate move to mobilize and skill young people on ICT, leadership, and entrepreneurship in the rural Districts of Pallisa and Kibuku in Eastern Uganda. Objectives of the innovation include ensuring that the rural population, especially young people become mobile from a virtual point of view, allow the population to achieve their personal achievement goals and help them not only to Have equal access to available opportunities in urban areas but equally make rural areas places where young people can thrive.
CIDD-UG envisages to skill 1,500 young people in the first half of the programme, (9 month), 70% of whom are girls in the region.
